Why I Wear a Watch

There are many reasons to love watches, but the most common argument against wearing a watch is that almost many are using their mobile phones to know the time.

But for me, the mobile phone is actually the main reason as to why I choose to wear a watch.

To me, a watch is a symbol of the importance of the present moment. More than just telling time, a watch demonstrates the passage of time. It’s what makes the present so valuable.

Wearing a watch is a symbol and a reminder that the present moment matters and commands respect. My time’s not to be wasted by anyone but me.

My mobile phone, while also telling time and demonstrating the passage of time, doubles as powerful extension of other people’s agendas for my time. Therefore, like a form of personal rebellion if you will, I want to be able to turn my phone off and put it away — on my terms.

Not that we need to be all dramatic about it, but one could say that my watch is an extension of my freedom and that my mobile phone is an extension of my slavery.
