The Feiyutech Vimble 2.

Going to try some video shooting with this gimbal from FeiyuTech, the Vimble 2.

According to reviews, the FeiyuTech Vimble 2 is far from the best mobile gimbal on the market, but since I believe it’s going to be used sparingly, I found the price to be more than reasonable. After all, this is a piece of gear that I don’t know how much we’re going to be using.

Having tested it for a little bit, it works fine in vertical position (which is a must for vertical video in social media) despite having to deal with my rather large iPhone 7 Plus. The built in telescope arm works as a selfie stick which makes video with the front camera a lot more pleasing. The included tripod foot has also proved highly useful and it’s great that you can let the gimbal charge your phone while filming.

I think the FeiyuTech Vimble 2’s overall design is okay, too. And it doesn’t feel too plastic for a budget type mobile gimbal, either. The telescope feels surprisingly sturdy.

On the minus side so far: The engine runs hot when the phone isn’t perfectly placed. Also, the companion app could do with some improvements overall. You can use the FeiyuTech Vimble 2 directly with Snapchat, Instagram, Filmic Pro, and the native iOS camera app, but the different modes (like face following) only works with the native app.

I think we’re going to have some creative fun with this one.
